Who Is Rex Tillerson?

Rex Tillerson is Trump’s nominee for Secretary of State. He connects Donald Trump with oil, foreign policy and Russia.

Tillerson took a job with Exxon straight out of college in 1975, and he served as chair and CEO of Exxon-Mobil from 2006 to 2016. In 2014 he publicly opposed US sanctions against Russia, and in January 2017 Trump Watchdogs learned that under Tillerson’s watch at Exxon-Mobil the company had conducted business with three states under US sanctions: Iran, Sudan and Syria. Thus we find it laughable that when asked in his confirmation hearing if he could make unbiased decisions, he said he would act in America’s interests.

Trump’s pick for Secretary of State is also known to have close ties with Vladimir Putin. This especially put Tillerson under scrutiny in light of revelations about Putin in the Panama Papers, which focus on fraud and tax havens and describe Putin’s Russia as a “mafia state.”

The value of Trump to Exxon-Mobil and Russia has been described as $500 billion. The US has imposed sanctions on Russia for invading Ukraine, and Trump has publicly indicated his openness to lifting those restrictions.

You can encourage your government representatives to NOT confirm Rex Tillerson. The contact info for both houses of Congress is at https://www.congress.gov/contact-us.
