Many members of Congress are happy to repeal the pre-conditions clause of the Affordable Care Act (ACA or “ObamaCare”). However, repeal of this clause means that roughly 120 million Americans could be excluded from affordable coverage because of their medical histories. And the same clause prohibits insurance companies from charging higher rates for the pre-existing “condition” of being a woman — something they did until the ACA took effect in 2014.
Five Republican senators have broken away from the Grand Ol’ Party to demand a slowdown of the ACA repeal. Senator Elizabeth Warren advises that it would be helpful to 1) express your appreciation to these senators and 2) share your healthcare story, if relevant. The Fearless Five are:
Senator Bob Corker – (202) 224-3344
Senator Lisa Murkowski – (202) 224-6665
Senator Rob Portman – (202) 224-3353
Senator Susan Collins – (202) 224-2523
Senator Bill Cassidy – (202) 224-5824
