After Congress met with FBI officials on January 13, some lawmakers emerged with their confidence in FBI Director James Comey undermined. This was partly because of new information they’d learned about investigations into Donald Trump. As Rep. Tim Walz told The Hill, “Some of the things that were revealed in this classified briefing — my confidence has been shook.”
Participants are forbidden from sharing details about the meeting, but likely this was on the agenda: a CIA-initiated investigation into concerns that Russia was funding Donald Trump’s presidential campaign.
The BBC reported on January 14 that the investigation was apparently instigated by a taped conversation about the allegation. The CIA formed a task force including the FBI, the NSA, the Treasury and Justice Departments, and the Director of National Intelligence.
The task force was granted a warrant to collect the electronic records from two Russian banks that might have transferred funds. Trump Watchdogs surmise that one such bank is Alfa, which holds the computer server that has been connected to the Trump Organization’s server on Fifth Avenue.
